Special requirements have to be complied with the illumination of operating systems whenever night vision systems (NVIS = Night Vision Imaging Systems or NVG = Night Vision Goggles) are used in aircraft cockpits. Night vision devices work in the infrared range and often other sources of light in the cockpit outshine them. Therefore only predefined colours are allowed for the backlight of control elements.

EAEs backlight technology meets the standard MIL STD 3009 using the appropriate LEDs and printing of the front panel with filtering colours. Furthermore all operator panels built with this technology fulfil the requirements regarding reliability, fault-free operation and EMC.
